Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP) has set up a committee to study the government’s move to license more casinos on the island.
The government last week deferred the presentation of its casino bill to parliament after opposition from within the ruling coalition. The UNP’s Ajith P. Perera said the latest controversy has brought to light the fact that even small scale casinos operating in the country do not have licenses. He added the government has not issued licenses for bookie businesses either.
