Businessman Dhammika Perera has closed down his MGM Grand casino in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo, according to local media reports.
The property was closed about two months ago with the loss of about 250 jobs, the report said.
Perera plans to turn the building into a gallery showing the talents of glass artists, it said.
No further details were given as to the reason for the closure. Earlier this year, the new administration of President Maithripala Sirisena cancelled three proposed casino projects on the island following strong opposition from conservative members of society and the powerful Buddhist clergy.
One of those projects was a resort planned by Australian tycoon James Packer’s Crown Resorts.
