Summit Ascent completes hiring for Russia project, sees Aug. opening

Summit Ascent Holdings said it has now completed the hiring for its new casino in Vladivostok and expects to open the delayed property no later than August 28th.

In a Hong Kong Stock Exchange filing, the company said its First Gambling Company of the East unit continues to make solid progress on the resort despite “certain unexpected challenges.”

These included local regulatory approvals of certain imported decorative materials and the inability of some subcontractors to meet agreed upon deadlines for the handover to its  main sub-contractor for interior MEP installation and fit out.

The resort will be known as Tigre de Cristal. So far all key management positions have been filled and 200 dealers are undergoing training.

In the first phase of the project the company will hire about 700 staff, which will rise to 1,100 when the resort is fully built.

Summit also said that recent macro developments will benefit the new casino, such as the regional government’s recent decision to to designate Vladivostok as Russia’s first free port. It also said Singapore’s Changi Airport Authority is teaming with local partners to buy the international airport in the city.

“It is believed that this new consortium will drastically improve the efficiency and increase the number of airlines operating out of Vladivostok International Airport,” it said.
