Vietnam-based property developer Sun Group has been confirmed as the only company allowed to develop and operate a casino in the Van Don Economic Zone, local media reports.
In a document signed by Nguyen Van Thanh, deputy chairman of the Quang Ninh People’s Committee on April 17, the chairman confirmed that “Sun Group is the province’s strategic developer, and was chosen by the province to report to the prime minister as the only developer of the luxury resort-entertainment complex with a casino, according to the master plan approved by the prime minister, and allowed to pilot allowing Vietnamese citizens to play in the casino,” according to news outlet VietnamNet Bridge.
It was reported in March that the Van Don Economic Zone would see up to two casino developments, with the other being developed by FLC Group Joint-stock Co., which planned for a $2 billion casino resort over a total of 4,000 hectares.
However, according to the latest master plan, only Sun Group’s resort and park project in Van Yen commune will be allowed to include a casino in the zone.
