Suncity denies giving political donations to Senator Grace Poe

Macau junket operator Suncity Group Ltd denies it made political donations to Philippines independent presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe, local media reports.

On Monday, Philippines newspaper The Daily Tribune reported that it obtained documents showing Poe’s camp had accepted P150 million (US$3.2 million) in “political donations” from the junket via three cash vouchers issued last year. One of the vouchers reportedly had Grace Poe’s signature.

However, a spokesperson of Suncity, who was in touch with Macau Business Daily said this was “a false report”, and said the company will follow up on the issue. Suncity was reportedly been trying to establish a strong foothold in the local Philippine gaming industry and has plans to expand its VIP room presence in Solaire and City of Dreams.

The senator has since denied receiving donations from Sun City, according to Sun Star Manila. "The document they are releasing (is not true). You know, I am just holding myself back but I think they should be held liable for what they are doing," the senator said. "It is easy to get another document for signature. It is not really (true). And it is really distressing," she continued.
