The announcement that Genting’s Resorts World Sentosa expansion will include the creation of a Super Nintendo World brings into focus the fact that this theme park will likely have an indirect link to the expected Osaka Yumeshima IR as well.
It was in May 2015 that Nintendo announced its partnership with Universal Parks & Resorts, and the construction of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan has been underway since June 2017 at an estimated cost of over JPY60 billion (about $540 million), with the opening expected “before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.”
This first Super Nintendo World will be located right next to Osaka’s University City Station on the JR Yumesaki Line. When the anticipated Yumeshima Station is constructed in the mid-2020s, it will be a short three stations distant, practically part of the IR development itself.
There are also plans afoot to build Super Nintendo Worlds at the Universal Studios theme parks in Los Angeles and Orlando. The Singapore version is the fourth to be announced.
