Suspicious sports betting alerts trending down in 1Q23, Asia’s linked mostly to cricket and football

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) says that there were a total of six suspicious sports betting alerts reported to authorities in Asia during the first quarter of the year, amongst the 40 total alerts reported worldwide.

Regarding the Asian alerts, two were related to football (Hong Kong and Israel – which the group includes in Asia), two were linked to cricket (Bangladesh and Oman), one was for basketball (Singapore) and one was for tennis (Turkey).
Asia was the continent with the second-highest number of alerts, but lagged far behind Europe, which recorded 24. Eight of these were for football (Croatia and UK, Greece - 2 and Spain – 4), with another eight linked to tennis (Greece – 2, Portugal – 2, Spain – 4). The total number of reported alerts was down 20 percent compared to the previous quarter and down 17 percent year-on-year.
