Tasracing and Tabcorp sign three-year sponsorship deal

Tasmania’s racing operator Tasracing has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Tabcorp, as well as a 10 year broadcasting rights deal with Sky Racing, local media reports.

This commercial arrangement will allow Tabcorp, through its Luxbet brand, to have naming rights for the Elwick, Mowbray and Spreyton racetracks, the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival and the Hobart and Launceston Cups.

The deal will also give Tasracing the ability to broadcast all Tasmanian racing live on  tasracing.com.au and club websites around the state, to be launched in the second half of 2016.

Tasracing chairman Dean Cooper said the new arrangement would provide the state racing industry the ability to broadcast to international markets.

"This is important as international broadcasts of our racing provided a record $475,000 in returns to the industry last year,” said Cooper.

Tasracing chief executive Dr Eliot Forbes said the deal represented a strong endorsement of the industry in Tasmania. "(Tabcorp) putting its name to our racing venues, our major thoroughbred carnival and the Hobart and Launceston Cups for three years is a strong endorsement of the industry here,” said Forbes on the Tasracing website.

"Given the deal allows for continued and enhanced cooperative arrangements for international broadcasts, I am confident it will deliver further benefits for the industry.”
