The Star Sydney given a six-month deadline to get back the gaming license or face closure

Australia’s The Star in Sydney has been given a six-month deadline to get back its gaming license or face closure after authorities in New South Wales deemed that its Sydney property still requires supervision.

The NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC) has now ruled that the operator has six months to prove it can operate independently or faces the risk of closure, notes The Sydney Morning Herald.
“The NICC is not satisfied The Star has reached a point where the license suspension can be lifted and it can run its casino without the supervision of the manager,” a spokesperson told the publication.
“If they can’t prove they are capable of operating with a conditional license over the next six months, the manager will be retired, and the doors will close,” noted the same NICC representative.
The authorities have outlined some 640 points that they believe the operator should improve in its remediation plan, in order to reinstate its license, but authorities appear concerned that The Star might continue in its old ways if left unchecked.
This comes even as a special counsel continues to oversee The Star’s NSW operations, with Nick Weeks at the helm of the operations, now in his final term which is set to expire next June.
