The Star Sydney to play host to The Star Poker Festival

Star Poker is set to open its doors to the masses when it hosts the inaugural The Star Poker Festival featuring the APL Million from 28 February to 13 March, 2017.

Following the success of WSOP Sydney in November and December, which broke all previous tournament records with capacity fields right across the schedule, The Star has joined forces with the Australia Poker League (APL) to create the ultimate poker festival for grassroots players from all over Australia.

The Star’s chief operating officer gaming, Damian Quayle, said the upcoming Star Poker Festival would provide players at all levels the opportunity to compete for huge prizes for an affordable outlay.

“The Star is very proud to be hosting The Star Poker Festival for the very first time,” he said.

“This new tournament series plays an important role in our goal to create Australia’s leading poker room for players. With the motto of creating a low buy in, high stakes poker festival we want to cater to players on all levels.

“Like the recent WSOP Sydney, we expect this event to be a sell-out so I recommend players qualify early to avoid disappointment.”

The Star Poker Festival will feature nine events over 14 days with the highly anticipated APL Million Main Event to carry a low $1,500 buy-in accompanied by a massive $1 million guarantee.

The APL is the world’s largest free-to-play poker league and home to nearly 750,000 members throughout Australia via around 2,200 local pubs and clubs.

APL CEO Brayden Haynes said, “We are ecstatic to have joined forces with The Star to offer this unique opportunity for players from all corners of Australia to qualify and play in an affordable $1 million guarantee tournament.

“The fact that the new Star Poker Room is also one of the world’s finest will only add to the experience for players taking part in this event.”

Adding to the spectacle of The Star Poker Festival, all Main Event qualifiers will be invited to an exclusive player party at the glitzy Marquee nightclub at The Star on 9 March.

Aside from the APL Million Main Event, The Star Poker Festival schedule will feature a range of exciting side events ranging from the $220 Ladies Event to a $5,000 High Roller.

Players will also be able to take part in lower limit cash games and affordable Sit n Go tournaments throughout the series – all in the comfort of Star Poker’s recently refurbished, world class facilities.

Satellites begin on 29 January.
