Tinian on the hunt for new revenue

The municipality of Tinian has not collected any revenue since the closure of its sole major investor, Tinian Dynasty Casino and Hotel, Marianas Variety reports.

The island newspaper, quoting Tinian officials, said Tinian Dynasty was scheduled to re-open on April 15, but it did not. Tinian Mayor Joey Patrick San Nicolas however said the hotel will open during the island’s Fiesta between April 28-30.

Over the weekend, he and Senator Frank Cruz traveled to Hong Kong and Beijing to check on the status of casino resort projects proposed by Bridge Investment and Alter City Group for Tinian. He also said that they will invite potential investors to partner with Tinian Dynasty so that it can resume operations.

“We want our gaming industry to be more competitive and based on Asian-style gaming. Our laws need to be attractive to investors so it’s time for some changes,” said Mayor San Nicolas.

‘We have a beautiful facility, and I don’t want to see it end up becoming an eyesore much like the La Fiesta Mall on Saipan. I don’t want Tinian Dynasty to be like that — that’s why we are addressing this problem now and we are meeting with the investors.”
