Tokyo waterfront site favored for casino development

Tokyo’s Odaiba waterfront district is the most popular location for a casino in Japan, with more than a quarter of respondents picking the spot as favourite in a survey carried out by ad agency Hakuhodo Inc, media reports said.

Odaiba was followed by Okinawa Prefecture, which got 14.2 percent of the vote, 13.2 percent for Osaka and 10.5 percent for Yokohama. The survey was conducted online in March on 4,700 people across Japan.

Hakuhodo expects that a resort casino in Odaiba would attract 24 million visitors per year from within Japan and, excluding retail, would generate annual sales of up to 2.9 trillion yen ($2.84 billion).

An Okinawa integrated resort is seen attracting around 14 million visitors domestically and generating sales of 1.3 trillion yen, compared with 13 million visitors and 1.9 trillion yen for Osaka.
