Trump-linked company files for trademarks in Macau

A company linked with US President Donald Trump has reportedly received approvals for the development of the Trump brand in Macau.

DTTM Operations LLC, a Delaware-based company which is responsible for handling the ownership of dozens of trademarks for the president, filed four applications under the brand name “Trump” in June in Macau.

The trademarks include real estate services, construction and development, hotel property, as well as food and beverage and conference facilities.

The organization’s latest dealings in Macau may signal Trump’s intention of making a move into its lucrative casino market.

“It is a possibility, albeit remote,” said gaming analyst Ben Lee, a managing partner at IGamiX Management and Consulting, quoted by SCMP.

“His children constantly scout the globe looking for new businesses and to expand the Trump brand.

“Given that this trademark application comes a few years before the concession renewal between 2020 and 2022, one has to consider the possibility that he may look at applying for a new concession.”

Glenn McCartney, associate professor in international integrated resort management at the University of Macau, said the move might simply be a “defensive measure”, so no one can use the logo or brand in Macau.
