U.S. online lottery could be worth up to $17.5 billion


The online lottery industry in the United States could be worth as much as $17.5 billion in incremental annual sales, with a substantial portion coming from completely new players, proving multi-channel play can attract a wider audience, according to a survey commissioned by Lottovate, a unit of betting operator Tipp24.
Lottovate enlisted British-based market research firm YouGov, which reported that 27.1 percent of U.S. adults expressed an interest in playing lottery games by way of PC's or mobile devices.
 The survey found that around 41 percent of existing retail lottery players were interested in online options and 8.3 percent of US adults who presently are not players would take part if the online option was available. That equates to a potential market of 19.2 million players, it said.
