Ukraine parliament fails to vote on gambling law

The parliamentary voting on Ukraine’s draft gambling law has been rescheduled to 14th of July 2020, after failing to be pushed through last week, according to local sources.

The country was due to take its draft gambling law to its second reading in June 2020, which if passed, would legalize land-based casinos, online casinos, sports betting shops, slot machine halls, online poker, totalisator and lotteries in the country.

On June 23, a Ukraine parliamentary committee approved the initial tax framework for its nascent gambling industry, setting a rate of 5 percent of gross gaming revenue for sportsbooks.

For online casinos, tax will be payable at 10 percent of GGR and 12.5 percent for slots. There has been proposed an 18 percent corporate tax rate on profits, with no VAT.
