Unadopted greyhounds could mean heavy fines for Canidrome

Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome could face hefty fines if it leaves any unadopted greyhounds in the canidrome after July 21, said the Civic and Municipal Bureau (IACM) on Wednesday, Macau Business reports.

Under the Animal Protection Law enforced in 2016, leaving any animal unattended would be an infraction if an owner failed to reclaim the animal within seven days of being notified by the IACM.

Fines range from MOP 20,000 (US$2,481) to 100,000 for each animal abandoned.

According to the last update, around 50 greyhounds have been adopted so far, leaving 600 still in need of homes.

The Canidrome has been given until July 10 to submit a proposal for the adoption of the greyhounds.
