VIC gaming minister orders review into Crown allegations

A new review into Crown Resorts’ business practices will be wrapped up by the Victorian gambling regulator within the next few weeks, local media reports.

On Thursday, Victoria’s minister for gambling, Marlene Kairouz said she has ordered the state gaming regulators to conduct a “snap investigation” into the allegations made against Crown Resorts, which includes claims of links to organized crime and visa expedition.

The explosive allegations were uncovered on Sunday through a joint investigation by The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and 60 Minutes.

“The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation will cooperate fully with any investigation,” Kairouz said.

“I’ve asked the regulator to re-examine the allegations raised as a matter of priority and report back to me as soon as possible.

“I’ve also asked the department, with the assistance of the commission, to examine the regulatory arrangements of junket operators.”

Kairouz has appealed to anyone with information to come forward to authorities.

Shares in the Australian operator dropped more than 3 percent on Monday in the wake of the allegations.
