Victoria, home to Crown Melbourne, has announced a strengthening of its lockdown restrictions in a bid to slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus, which has been ripping through the nation.
“After almost two weeks of restrictions in Victoria, it’s clear the number of coronavirus cases out in the community is still too high, it’s spreading too far and there are too many exposure sites cropping up every day,” said Victorian premier Daniel Andrews.
The lockdown, which was due to end this Thursday, has now been extended to Thursday, September 2.
The extended lockdown also comes with a curfew imposed from 9pm to 5am every night, except for essential reasons.
All casinos and gaming venues in the state have been closed.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 lockdown in NSW, home to Crown Barangaroo, the Star Sydney and countless clubs and pubs is looking to continue on after recording another record number of new cases on Monday.
NSW premier Gladys Berlijiklian described the new case numbers as “disturbing”.
The lockdown is expected to now last through to the end of September at least.
