Victoria Police charge six in match-fixing ring

Further to the arrest of 10 men last week in Australia's largest match-fixing scandal involving Victorian Premier League football team, the Southern Stars, police have brought charges against six of them, including the coach, a goalkeeper and a Malaysian national, alleged to be the ring leader. 

 An investigation by Victoria Police uncovered an alleged match-fixing ring in which players were advised how they should play and what the scores should be and resulted in the arrests.  The Malaysian national, a 45 year old named Gerry Gsubramanian, was allegedly the key contact between the international fixers and the Southern Stars.  Police so far have identified more than $2 million in winnings from the betting syndicate.  Gsubramanian was refused bail due to being a flight risk after it was revealed he had attempted to change his passport details and airline ticket.
