Victorian Government launches new trial program to combat problem gambling

The Victorian government has launched a new trial program to combat problem gambling in rural areas. Starting in Ballart the new program is focused on new treatment and support of problem gamblers in country areas. 

The pilot program has developed new methods of screening patients to determine the best treatment for gambling addiction recovery. State Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation Melissa Horne, Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle, and Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison, joined forces to launch the pilot. 
The program will increase access to health professionals and includes additional resources for mental health, alcohol and other members of the community who are deemed vulnerable to gambling addiction. 
“Everyone experiences gambling harm differently, and tailored treatment options are so important for long-term recovery which is exactly what this tool provides,” said Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation Melissa Horne.
“Gambling harm is a complex issue, which is made even more so when it co-exists with other conditions. This pilot will make it easier for locals in this situation to access all the services they need,” added Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle.
“This pilot is ensuring locals can get the help they need by increasing awareness among allied health professionals and removing stigma as a barrier to seeking support,” said Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison added.
