Vietnam authorities cracked down on an online football gambling ring worth VND1.3 trillion ($58 million) over the weekend, local media reports.
A total of 14 simultaneous raids were conducted on April 3, in Thanh Hoa city in Central Vietnam, arresting 12 and seizing 20 cellphones, five computers, two firearms and about VND1 billion in cash.
All those arrested admitted to running an online football gambling ring.
Authorities identified Nguyen The Hieu and Nguyen Thanh Trung as the gang's leaders.
In Vietnam, the crime of illegal gambling can carry up to ten years imprisonment, and fines up to VND 100 million.
