Visitor arrivals totalled just over 3 million in August, up by 14.5 percent month-on-month but down 1.7 percent year-on-year, according to official data.
Visitors from Mainland China, Macau’s key market, decreased 1.7 percent year-on-year to 2 million, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme dropping by 1 percent to 1.05 million. Visitors from South Korea showed a sharp decline of 24.8 percent to 43,710 YoY, while long-haul visitor numbers from the U.S., Australia, U.K. and Canada all declined.
In the first eight months, visitor arrivals totalled 20.43 million down by 3.2 percent year-on-year.
During this period, visitors from Mainland China went down 4.1 percent to 13.63 million.
