Visitor arrivals to Macau down 3.8 percent in July

Visitor arrivals to Macau totalled 2.6 million in July, up by 17.8 percent month-on-month but down by 3.8 percent year-on-year.

Visitors from Mainland China decreased by 6.1 percent YoY to 1.75 million with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme dropping by 5.3 percent to 824,536, according to official data.

Visitors from  South Korea dropped 22.5 percent to 37,050, while those from Hong Kong rose 5.7 percent to 586,136 and Taiwan up 0.1 percent to 93,443.

For the first seven months of 2015, total visitor arrivals were 17.4 million, down 3.5 percent YoY.

Data from the Statistics and Census Service also showed that total spending, excluding gaming expenses, of visitors in 15Q2 amounted to MOP12.25 billion, representing a decrease of 24.7 percent from MOP16.26 billion ($2 billion) in 14Q2, and an 8.3 percent decline from MOP13.36 billion in 15Q1. 

Spending among overnight visitors totaled MOP9.58 billion, down 30.4 percent year-on-year, while that of same-day visitors increased by 7.3 percent to MOP2.67 billion.
