Visitor numbers up 26.7 pct in first five days of CNY


Visitors to Macau reached a total of 842,574 during the first five days of the Golden Week holidays, representing a 26.7 percent increase from the previous year, local media reports.

According to data from the Macau Government Tourism Office, February 7 saw the largest influx of visitors, with 226,874 entering on the day.

MGTO director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes on Friday said the visitor numbers were “way above” previous estimates.

Of the total visitor numbers in the first five days, the number of mainland Chinese visitors increased 26 percent - reaching 611,269, or 72.5 percent of the total.
