VR utilized to promote Beppu bicycle racing

The Tokyo-based firm Jolly Good and Oita Broadcasting System combined forces this past weekend to bring a new VR experience to the Japanese public—“VR Beppu Bicycle Racing.”

The event was held as part of the “Oita Broadcasting System Thanksgiving Festival” held inside Oita Bank Dome in Oita City on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu.

Participants mounted a specially-designed exercise bike, with a wind machine in front of it, and then experienced, through VR goggles, what it is like to run in a bicycle race as one of the athletes.

The Beppu Velodrome, opened in 1950, is owned and operated by the Beppu city government, which is located next to Oita city.

The “VR Beppu Bicycle Racing” experience was intended as a promotional measure.
