54,000 gaming staff to be affected by the casino entry ban

Around 54,000 front gaming staff and junket workers are expected to be affected by Macau’s casino entry ban once it comes into force, local media reports.

On Monday, legislator Ho Ion Sang, the chairman of the 1st standing committee of the Legislative Assembly (AL) who is overseeing the casino entry ban proposal, said that around 46,000 gaming workers would be covered by the law - which includes frontline staff such as croupiers, cashiers, restaurant staff, cleaners and security guards.

The law will additionally affect around 8,000 junket operator employees, a number which was revealed after a meeting between the Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau (DICJ) and the “most representative junket operator association”.

“According to a preliminary study with the expansion of the entry ban scope some 8,000 employees from junket operators will be covered by these interdictions,” said Ho, quoted by Macau Business.

The government has yet to decide how employees breaching the rules would be punished, and how these fines would be paid.
