Akira Kurita appointed Hard Rock Japan’s public affairs advisor

Hard Rock Japan has announced the appointment of Akira Kurita, a very prominent figure on Japan’s IR scene, as its chief public affairs officer.

Hard Rock Japan Ado Machida stated, “Kurita has now been engaged in IR activities in Hokkaido for more than ten years, and has a good knowledge of various businesses and Japanese affairs. In addition, he has been working on the issue of MICE facilities… These are essential elements for the further development of the Japanese team.”

Kurita had been with the major Japanese public relations firm Hakuhodo since 1983, and came to lead the firm’s engagement with the developing IR industry. He has become one of Japan’s leading lecturers on IR matters, counseling lawmakers and businesspeople alike.

Hard Rock Japan has focused its IR campaign on building a facility at Tomakomai, Hokkaido.

At the end of last November, Hokkaido Governor Naomichi Suzuki announced that the prefecture would not be proceeding with an IR bid, but Hard Rock Japan has been behaving as if that decision will not stick. The hiring of Kurita reinforces the impression that Hard Rock believes that Hokkaido will rejoin the IR race in the near future.
