Alphadraft closes fantasy sports site

Daily esports fantasy operator Alphadraft has announced it will be closing its daily fantasy esports site by the end of the week, the latest casualty of what has proven to be a very challenging market.

In an email to its customers, the fantasy sports operator said it had “made the difficult decision to stop offering fantasy eSports contests on AlphaDraft as of Friday, October 21, at the conclusion of the League of Legends World Championship.”

Players are allowed to play contests until this time, said the operator.

Alphadraft was purchased by FanDuel last year, just weeks before a number of controversies and legal challenges turned the daily fantasy sports industry upside down.

Their largest competitor at the time, Vulcun, suspended paid fantasy sports games in January 2016, before shutting down completely in July.

Both operators have been suffering from legal and legislative hurdles across the United States after a push for regulating daily fantasy sports reared its head last year.
