While the Baird’s greyhound racing ban reversal came as a relief to the greyhound industry, Animals Australia has has vowed to continue its investigations into animal cruelty.
"We need to remember what led to the ban in the first place," she said, quoted by ABC news.
"It was tortured and terrified animals that were tied alive to lures and leashes and being ripped apart by the dogs."
"Live baiting, doping, killing of thousands of healthy dogs who do not run fast enough and track injuries will continue," she said.
"We will continue our campaign and we will continue the way forward."
As part of its measures, the NSW government says it would increase the penalties for live baiting, including increased jail terms and lifetime bans. It will also be setting up an industry reform panel, led by former premier Morris Iemma.
