Aquis happy to comply with renewed probity investigation

Aquis developers have said they are happy to comply with a renewed probity check after reapplying for a casino license for its proposed multi billion-dollar resort at Yorkeys Knob, local media reports.

Aquis dropped out of its first probity check in February 2015 after failing to provide vital information.

A Queensland’s Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) spokeswoman said the government agreed to re-enter negations with Aquis, subject to certain conditions, including the need to fully co-operate in a new investigation.

“Under the Casino Control Act 1982, a casino licence cannot be awarded until, among other things, the Minister and Governor in Council are satisfied the applicant and its associates are suitable,” she said.

An Aquis spokesman did not say why the company dropped out of the 2014 probity investigation, but said it would be happy to deal with OLGR about its renewed assessment.

“We are progressing a range of other aspects associated with the project, mainly to do with land use approvals, which do not require input from the OLGR,” he said.
