Authorities apprehend loan shark group


Macau authorities have busted a loan shark syndicate that has been targeting local casino workers.

Ten suspects in total have been arrested, with the possibility of more arrests, local media reports.

The syndicate has seen at least 120 victims over the five years of its operation, with around MOP 4 million (US$500,000) involved in the case.

Leader of the group, Ng, a local resident was arrested along with five males and four females aged between 20 and 50, suspected of committing organized crime, loan sharking, illegally acquiring documents, forgery among other crimes.

The case has been passed to Macau’s Public Prosecutors Office for further processing.
