Authorities dismantle World Cup betting operation, arresting 31

Singapore police have taken down a multi-million dollar World Cup betting operation, arresting 31 suspects in total, local media reports.

The suspects, all male, are believed to have placed and received illegal bets amounting to more than S$4 million (US$2.9 million) in the past two weeks.

Police said the arrests were part of an island-wide operation on Monday.

Approximately S$1.3 million in cash was seized in the operation, as well as computers, mobile phones, and other documents.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation & Intelligence) and concurrent Director of the Criminal Investigation Department Florence Chua said the police takes a serious view against unlawful remote gambling and will continue to take tough enforcement actions against those that break the law.
