Betting affiliates branch into crypto

Online betting and gaming affiliates are beginning to see cryptocurrency as the next big thing, and are actively exploring opportunities in this space, Jonathan Casuncad of 88 Interactive told AGB on Thursday.

The online affiliates that have typically served online betting and gaming companies are now finding it increasingly difficult to navigate strict censorship and marketing regulations in Asia.

"On Google, you can find ways to advertise gambling products without Google ever knowing what you are doing... but with Baidu, you can't even begin to use gaming keywords to drive traffic... it's impossible," said Casuncad, director of 88 Interactive.

Casuncad noted that while these affiliates have begun working in the cryptocurrency space, they aren’t abandoning the gaming world.

When asked if the target audience for cryptocurrency in Asia would be the same as the ones in gambling, Casuncad said there is a good chance that they would be one and the same.

"It's been repackaged and is presented as a cryptocurrency trading product, but is in fact, gaming," he said.
