BJP leader demands nationwide ban on lottery

Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel on Thursday demanded a nationwide ban on lottery, calling it a social evil and a plight on poor people.

Goel raised the issue during the Zero Hour in the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India.

Goel said single digit lottery has been banned, and now even multi-digit number lotteries should be banned.

The BJP leader said that all parties should support his demand, the notion was supposed by several members across the House.

In other news, BJP MP from Mandsaur Sudheer Gupta has questioned whether the central government proposes to ban online betting websites after a PIL was filed by social activist Avinash Mehotra last month.

A response to Gupta’s query will be tabled in the Lok Sabha by the central government on July 3, 2019, and will be the first official reaction to Mehrotra’s anti-betting PIL.
