Casino employees seek help from Social Affairs Bureau

More than 30 percent of those seeking help for gambling disorders in 2017 were employed in the casino sector, according to Social Affairs Bureau (IAS) deputy director Hoi Wa Pou, local media reports.

In the first three quarters of 2017, the bureau received requests for assistance from 119 individuals. A high proportion of those cases came from gaming employees.

Hoi said the IAS in recent years have offered gaming executives courses on responsible gaming, however, only around 30 people have completed the training.

Dealers and other frontline workers have been known to be more susceptible for gambling related harm - leading to calls for a banning of frontline workers from entering casinos off duty.
