Casino Jai Alai opening moved to early 2017

Casino Jai Alai’s opening date has been moved to early next year as it wraps up renovation works, reports Macau TDM.

The casino, operated by SJM Holdings Ltd. was originally scheduled to open by the end of this year. It first closed for renovations in 2013.

In August, SJM chief executive Ambrose So was confident that all the renovation works would be ready in October. However, with one month left until year end, the casino is still being revamped.

On Tuesday, the SJM chief executive made the announcement that the reopening would only be possible by early next year at the earliest, after all ongoing works are finished.

"It's hard to determine [an exact date]. We will surely finish the construction works within this year. But we also wish the government could cooperate to speed up the approval, licensing and inspection procedures", said Mr So. quoted by Macau TDM.

The revamped property is expected to have “about 30 to 40” mass gaming tables when it reopens, according to SJM Holdings executive director, Angela Leong On Kei in November. The casino will also feature around 130 hotel rooms.
