Casinos warned against laundering for political parties

Goa’s chief election officer has warned casinos against laundering money for political parties in light of the upcoming state elections on February 4, local media reports.

Electoral chief Kunal said the electoral watchdog is keeping a close on activities in offshore and onshore casinos, with heavy penalties for violators.

"We have already advised casino operators that they can carry on with their legal business but should not allow themselves to be used to park or distribute money for any political party or candidate," Kunal told reporters.

While operators have a right to carry out their legal business, “if they are used to violate the norms, then strict action would be initiated against them,” he said.
