China Railway International and XpressWest have agreed to form a joint venture to accelerate the development of a high-speed rail project connecting Las Vegas and Los Angeles, with initial capital of $100 million.

The project will develop, finance, build and operate the Southwest Rail Network, with stations in Las Vegas, Nevada, Victorville, California, and Palmdale, California, and service throughout Los Angeles.

Construction of the 370km track is planned to commence as early as September 2016.

The project “will create new technology, manufacturing, and construction jobs throughout the interstate corridor and will connect Southern Nevada and Southern California which will drive new economic development and grow the tourism industry which is vital to the economy of the region,” XpressWest said in a release.
