China lottery sales slip 27.3 percent in July

China’s lottery sales slipped 27.3 percent year-on-year in July to RMB27.1 billion ($4.2 billion), according to state-news service Xinhua.

Citing the Ministry of Finance, Xinhua reported that the decline was due to the high base comparison from the same period last year, driven by the World Cup 2014.

For the first seven months of 2015, lottery sales amounted to RMB214.7 billion, down 0.4 percent year on year.

Welfare lottery sales increased by 2.1 percent to reach RMB118.4 billion, while sports lottery sales dropped 3.4 percent to RMB96.3 billion during this period..

Lottery sales in east China's Shandong Province rose by RMB1.36 billion from a year ago, while Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Henan, Hebei and Zhejiang provinces also posted large increases, according to the ministry.
