Construction for Crimea gambling zone to start next year

An unnamed investor is expected to start the construction of the Crimea gambling zone next year, Crimea head Sergei Aksenov was quoted as saying by Russia's state-owned RIA Novosti news agency on Tuesday.

He also added that the gaming zone is purely a business project.

"The day before yesterday [on 21 August] a roadmap with the project execution timeframe was presented. In this case, the project development [is expected to be] completed by the end of this year and the installation and construction works to begin in 2017," Aksenov told reporters.

According to the Crimea head,  the project will be presented to the public prior to the start of construction.

"Today, the private investor is still adjusting his plans, there are certain nuances. Unfortunately, I cannot influence this process as regards its speed," Aksenov said.

His announcement came several days after Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had given a green light to the neighbouring Sochi gaming zone.

Meanwhile, NJSC Krasnaya Polyana (Red Meadow) told a local publication that the exact date of opening a first casino in the zone has not been set yet. It also added that the resort Gorki Gorod will provide service infrastructure for the zone, which will be run by a company having a respective licence.

Meanwhile, Russian-controlled company Diamond Fortune Holdings Prim, one of the key investors in the Primorye zone, said it has no plans to invest in the new zone in Sochi as it is too focused on Primorye.
