Cops bust illegal casino in Yokohama

Kanagawa police raided an illegal casino in Yokohama’s Naka Ward on July 2 and arrested four people, including the shop’s manager, 34-year-old Takahiro Okamoto.

The illegal casino, named Gets, operated 24-hours-a-day at a location only 500 meters distant from the Kanagawa Prefectural Police headquarters. On an average day it is said to have had about twenty customers, and since the casino opened around last September, its revenues are said to have been about JPY540 million (about USD4.9 million).

The illegal casino was equipped with four baccarat tables and five slot machines, and for security had heavy steel doors and about twenty surveillance cameras.

Last month there were two high-profile busts of illegal casinos in the Kabukicho district of Tokyo.
