Corporate executives appeal for a healthy Osaka IR

On Tuesday, the Kansai Association of Corporate Executives issued a public appeal regarding the concepts that they hope will guide the development of the prospective IR to be established at Yumeshima in Osaka.

Their vision is that advanced technology will be employed to provide for the public “well-being.”

The appeal states, “Well-being refers not only to individual mental and physical health, but also encompasses social aspects such as economic stability’s contributions to physical, spiritual, and social benefits.”

The executives call for the central government to envision “well-being” at the heart of a “Japanese-style IR.”

More concretely, their proposal is that the Yumeshima IR will make experimental use of big data and other cutting-edge information technologies to serve as an incubator for new Japanese industries. This would include a new medical research organization focused on “life sciences.” Collectively, these are meant to serve for the benefit to human health and prosperity.

This “well-being” appeal is also meant to equally apply to Osaka’s bid to host the 2025 World Expo, which, if successful, would take place on Yumeshima next to the IR within a few years of its prospective opening.

The Osaka government, the Ishin Party which commands it, and the local business community have been lobbying strongly to realize success on both their IR bid and their World Expo bid, hoping that these initiatives can stimulate an economic renaissance in their region in the mid-2020s.
