CORRECTION: Galaxy to focus on non-casino services in second-stage project

Galaxy Macau will focus on non-casino services for its second-stage investment project in a bid to diversify its client base to target middle-class Chinese.

Business channel of web portal Sohu .com said that the company is looking to cash-in on Macau’s appeal as a more popular tourist destination over Hong Kong.

"Chinese travelers from inland areas are still limited in number, but citizens from many second- or third-tier cities actually have a high degree of interest in visiting Macau," the Sohu reported.

Galaxy Macau Phase II, costing about HK$43 billion ($5.55 billion), will be inaugurated on May 27 and will have a total space of 1.1 million square meters. It will contain facilities offering dining, entertainment, shopping and convention and exhibition services.

The project will contain six major hotels consisting of 4,000 rooms, along with exhibitions and banqueting facilities capable of accommodating 3,000 persons. There will be over 120 restaurants, other dining outlets and bars, in addition to various fashion stores.
