Cricket betting bust in West Bengal

West Bengal police nabbed three suspects engaged in a cricket betting scheme using mobile phones during a test match between India and Bangladesh held at Eden Gardens cricket ground in Kolkata, India.

“They were operating a cricket betting racket using their mobile phones. Six mobile phones and one laptop were seized from their possession,” said Police Joint Commissioner Murlidhar Sharma.

The scheme involved watching the match at the grounds and then placing bets via mobile phone, taking advantage of the telecast lag.

Ten mobile phones and other gadgets along with INR140,000 (about $2,000) in cash were seized from the suspects.
