Crimea Deputy PM says gambling zone is important, but not priority

Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea, Vitaly Nakhlupin has reportedly told local journalists that although he considers the creation of a gambling zone in Crimea an important task, it is not a priority in these times of crisis, according to a local source.

"A very short period has passed from the first decision (to create the zone) until its implementation, but let's face it: today there are more overarching objectives than the creation of gambling zones. Unfortunately, the current state of economy does not indicate that we will be able to attract big players, because today people do not talk about investing - they save their resources ", Nakhlupin was quoted as saying from a local website.

At the same time, he assured that the issue of the creation of a gambling zone on an area of 5-10 hectares is still on the agenda and its implementation can help investors preserve capital.

"We have to give it (the gaming zone) as a platform for recovery. It is clear that today nobody talks about earnings as such, about receiving money - now everyone is talking about saving money in terms of the capitalization of assets. This is a long process", said Nakhlupin.

On Nov. 25, the Crimean State Council passed the law on “state regulation of activities for the organization and conduct of gambling in the gambling zone in the Republic of Crimea", which looks into the creation of a special governing body to regulate the gambling zone in Crimea.

The zone itself is planned to be set up on the territory involving the "Zhemchuzhina" (Eng: Pearl) and the adjacent park in Yalta.
