Crown denies involvement in QLD casino development

Australia-listed Crown Resorts has brushed off rumors of being in partnership with the ASF Group, developer of the proposed A$3 billion (US$2.3 billion) casino resort on the Gold Coast’s Spit, The Australian reports.

The ASF Consortium had been in negotiations with the Queensland government for some time to develop a casino at the Spit in Gold Coast. The consortium comprises of entities including China State Construction Engineering and (a) Tier 1 casino operator.

Earlier this year, the consortium said it was still searching for a “tier one” casino operator and “at least one other cornerstone entity”, despite a detailed submission for the project due to go the State Government in July.

In April 2016, it was revealed that Crown Resorts was in secret negotiations with the consortium to build and operate a five-story waterfront casino.

A Crown spokesman in correspondence with the Australian news outlet said the company had no agreement or contract with ASF Group or ASF Consortium.

He said while Crown has held discussions with the group, the discussions were preliminary and Crown was in no way connected to the development.

“We’ve had talks with them but Crown has no agreement with ASF Group,” he said.
