Crown Resorts employees formally arrested, still awaiting charges

The 16 Crown Resort employees who have been placed under detention in China for the last month have now been formally arrested, which could see them spend at least the next six months in custody, Australian media reports.

The weekend marked 37 days since the Crown employees were first detained, passing the “golden period” when an early release could be negotiated with Chinese authorities.

Only one employee Jenny Jiang, an administrative worker for Crown was freed on bail during the period.

The remaining 16 employees, with one additional individual who does not work directly for Crown, face at least six months in custody while authorities finalize their case.

Chinese authorities have not provided any more details on what charges they will face.

"They are not obliged to give any more information at this stage," said an anonymous person involved in the case, quoted by AFR.
