Cruise ship terminal earmarked for Incheon

A new cruise ship terminal is set to be built just 5km from Incheon International Airport, with the aim of boosting passenger traffic to the airport and its two neighbouring resort complexes, the Chosun Iibo reports.

Expected to be completed by 2021, the new cruise terminal is estimated to cost between KRW200 to KRW500 billion (US$177.3 to $443.2 million), according to the Incheon International Airport Corporation.

Cruise ships that dock at the terminal are expected to boost annual passenger traffic in and around the airport to 100 million by 2023 and to 130 million by 2029.

"The airport is getting bigger, so we need to ensure that more passengers use it,” said a representative from the  Incheon International Airport Corporation.

Airport officials believe the terminal will also boost business at the nearby Paradise City integrated resort, which opened in April, as well as the future Inspired Integrated resort.

The airport corporation said it plans to develop cruise ship tours linking the port city with Shanghai, Tianjin and Xiamen in China, connecting 100 cruise ships with the route.
