Debtor database delayed to February: Kwok

The launch of Macau’s junket-proposed debtor database system is likely to be delayed as it awaits approval from relevant authorities in Macau, local media reports.

Speaking to Macau Business Daily, Kwok Chi Chung, president of the Macau Association of Gaming and Entertainment Promoters said the association hopes to launch the system within February.

“Everything is ready and we are now just awaiting the approval from Office for Personal Data Protection”, said Kwok.

The debtor database first came to light last year in May, after the DICJ confirmed it was looking into the possibility of setting up a database of people who owe overdue debts related to credit issued for gambling.

During the MGS Entertainment Show, Kwok noted the database would help VIP junket operators prevent overlapping lending, reducing the risk of bad debt.
