Demand for IT and Analytics professionals driving up salaries in Asia

Demand in Asia for staff in IT and analytics is driving up average salaries in the betting sector, a survey undertaken by a specialist recruitment company shows.

According to BettingJobs, within many of the Asian online gaming operations, the companies tend to hire locally for non-senior roles and hence the salaries are typically lower. But the demand for talent in areas such as IT is driving up salaries.

“Asia is the fastest-growing region in online gaming just now, with many of the big name operators in the sector being based in Manila,” said Fiona Hickey, director at BettingJobs.

“We are seeing many firms in Asia recruit from the wider talent pool particularly at executive and senior staff levels.”

An IT director working in Asia will command an average salary of $130,000 while an IT project manager will typically be earning on average $77,000.

Software developers will be earning on average $91,000 and a programme manager will be on an average salary of $139,000.

“As European operators start to make an impact in Asia, we have experienced an increase in demand for experienced candidates - this has driven up salary levels,” said Hickey.

Another boom area within online gaming globally is the rise of analytics departments within the largest global operators.

This trend is also apparent in Asia with heads of department in this vertical commanding a salary, on average, of $85,000 while a business analyst will typically be earning on average $59,000.

“Big data is a very current issue for online gaming operators right now, and those based in Asia as much as in other jurisdictions are looking at how they can maximise and exploit these information flows,” said Hickey.
